Harpeth Hall seeks a student-centered, experienced college counselor who embraces the mission to educate girls and young women. The Associate Director of College Counseling serves in a full-time, twelve-month position on a team of three full-time College Counselors with a caseload of approximately 40 students in each class.

Qualified candidates will have a bachelor's degree (master's preferred), experience in either selective college admission or college counseling, a desire to work with students and families, excellent writing and communication skills, the ability to coordinate and accomplish tasks in a deadline-driven environment, a strong sense of ethics, a desire to continue to grow as a professional, and sensitivity to the needs of students from a variety of backgrounds.

The successful candidate will:

  • Work closely with individual students in their assigned caseload, recommending colleges for each student to consider based on the student’s interests and family needs, and guiding each student with the application process including reviewing all written material
  • Counsel families through every stage of the college admission process, including applications for merit scholarships, honors programs, and applying for financial aid, as well as special application processes such as athletic recruitment, performing arts auditions, and applications to service academies
  • Write a counselor recommendation for each student in their caseload
  • Review teacher recommendations for each student in their caseload
  • Prepare and send school documents for each student’s applications
  • Serve as the student’s advocate throughout the college search and application process
  • Communicate effectively with parents, via individual student/parent meetings and written correspondence
  • Continually learn about a wide variety of colleges through meeting with college Admission Officers, attending counselor fly-in programs, participating in counselor webinars, researching colleges, and building relationships with college Admission Officers on behalf of Harpeth Hall
  • Serve as an academic advisor
  • Serve as a liaison between the college counselors and the athletics department and fine and performing arts departments
  • Help to manage the course selection process
  • Proctor standardized tests including PSAT, SAT, ACT, and AP exams

In addition, there may be duties as assigned by the Director of College Counseling, Upper School Director, or Head of School.
