Upper School Director Position Description
St. George’s Independent School seeks an experienced, mission-driven, educational leader to serve as Upper School Director. This role provides strategic and operational leadership for all academic and student life programs across 9th-12th grade, ensuring excellence in teaching, learning, and student development. This position is the go to leader for all St. George’s upper school families, faculty, and staff.
Reporting to the Academic Head of School, the Upper School Director partners closely with other division directors and senior leadership to advance the school’s mission and strategic priorities. This leader cultivates a dynamic, inclusive and joyful upper school learning community where students thrive academically, socially and emotionally, while faculty are supported, challenged, and developed.

Education & Experience
- Master’s degree required.
- Minimum of 5 years of educational leadership experience
- Strong knowledge of academic, student life, and student accountability best practices
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills
- Leadership style grounded in empathy, integrity, collaboration, and accountability

- A desire to be present in the lives and daily activities of upper school students, families, faculty, and staff
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Administration
- Lead upper school faculty and staff
- In partnership with the Academic Head of School oversee upper school faculty recruitment, hiring, retention, evaluation, and professional development
- Collaborate with other division directors to ensure seamless and compelling processes from middle school to upper school
- Develop and manage upper school academic and student life budgets in collaboration with school leadership
- Help guide new enrollment and re-enrollment decision-making for the upper school
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth
- Develop the upper school annual calendar and ensure its weekly fulfillment providing the Academic Head of School with a monthly data report
- Partner with the Chief Operating Officer to ensure the operation team’s (facilities, health services, safety and security, and technology) goals are achieved with excellence.
- Presence & Community Engagement
- Maintain visible, relational leadership throughout the upper school
- Engage regularly with students, families, and faculty
- Visit classrooms, events, and practices to support teaching and learning
- Lead and participate in upper school faculty and student life meetings
- Guide social and emotional learning within the upper school alongside the counseling and student well-being team
- Ensure student accountability to the honor code throughout the upper school alongside the upper school Dean of Honor.
- Support upper school academic teams, fine arts performances, and athletic programs
- Serve as a responsive and supportive point of contact for families, maintaining strong partnerships between school and home
- Participate actively in admissions events, open houses, and tours, helping prospective families understand the Upper School experience
