Join KDS as an Assistant Residential Supervisor, where your leadership will directly impact the lives of our residents and the development of our staff. The Assistant Residential Director is directly responsible to the Residential Director and is scheduled to work a 40-hour week based on the needs of the program. Primary hours are 2:00pm – 10:00pm Monday-Friday. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and Supervise Residential Staff
    • Provide hands-on leadership during assigned shifts, modeling and coaching “The KDS Way” to ensure consistent, high-quality care.
    • Oversee staff performance, scheduling, PTO requests and employee development – from interviewing to counseling and termination as directed by the Residential Director.
    • Foster a culture of growth, collaboration, and accountability among direct care
  • Drive Student -Centered Goal Implementation
    • Collaborate with team members to set and implement individualized student/resident goals.
    • Ensure staff understand and execute goals with fidelity, and that progress is tracked through accurate, timely reporting.
    • Supervise the delivery of habilitative curriculum that is developmental, sequential, and tailored to each student’s needs and abilities.
  • Collaborate Across Departments
    • Work closely with other departments to resolve student-focused concerns and ensure a seamless residential experience.
    • Communicate resident issues to the Residential Director and help address family concerns with empathy and professionalism.
  • Manage Residential Operations
    • Conduct and document safety drills; submit maintenance requests; monitor cleanliness and uphold KDS facility standards.
    • Serve as a liaison to resolve issues with families, departments and other stakeholders.
  • Commitment to Continuous Training
    • Complete at least 24 hours of in-service training annually to stay current and effective in your role.

 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

Knowledge of:

  • Current practices in residential treatment and developmentally disabled individuals.
  • Basic employment principals.
  • Currently accepted methods of training, care, and treatment of individuals with developmental disabilities and the ability to implement them correctly.
  • Disabilities and the organization’s mission.

 

Ability to:

  • Think and act quickly in the event of an emergency.
  • Observe and report behavior change.
  • Accept responsibility and use good judgment.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing, with all individuals associated with KDS.
  • Be present at scheduled times and dressed according to policy guidelines.
  • Kneel, bend and clean on knees; perform a therapeutic hold that requires kneeling/sitting on knees for up to 15 minutes; holding an individual for 15 minutes; move furniture and lift items that weigh at least 40 lbs.; stock shelves which includes being able to lift items over your head and stack them onto shelves; mopping, sweeping, and moving chairs, tables and appliances.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Possess and maintain a current Class D license for transporting clients.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

 

Acceptable Experience and Training:

  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in special education, Psychology, Social Work or Guidance and Counseling or related field with proof of education prior to employment.
  • Provide evidence of a current TB screening prior to employment.
  • Be in good health and free of mental and/or physical limitations which would interfere in dealing appropriately with the client’s handicapping conditions and behavior disorders.
  • Provide evidence of a current TB Skin Test upon hire and prior to first day of employment.
  • CPR/First Aid and Handle With Care Training upon hire and prior to first day of contact with students and maintain certification.
  • Medication Administration Training within first 90 days of employment and maintain certification.
  • Successful completion of all pre-employment background screenings
