Position Description

This position is responsible for implementing an appropriate curriculum for preschool through fifth-grade students in a manner that aligns with our mission to nurture a love of learning, a joy of service, and a lively faith. This position is an ambassador of our core values. Additionally, this position collaborates within the school community, offering willing support and instruction to elevate the broader educational experience.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provides instruction with a curriculum connected to Core Knowledge and projects specific to grade-level units of study, establishing students' progression of skills involving science, technology, the related arts, and math in collaboration with classroom teachers.

  • Demonstrates a passion for teaching students through quality and effective hands-on learning experiences. Share that passion with our school community through positive words and a positive attitude. 

  • Assists with research and projects in collaboration with classroom/specialty teachers

  • Selects instructional supplies, materials, and resources and manages resources within the lab

  • Engage students in learning through best practice strategies 

  • Communicates student progress with families

  • Establishes positive classroom management routines

  • Maintain a safe, clean, comfortable, collaborative setting 

  • Chair the Car Club after-school activity and lead parent helpers

  • Plan lessons and use a variety of teaching strategies and resources to differentiate instruction and meet the needs of individual learners to ensure all students are engaged and challenged. Provide lessons to the Director of Academics in advance. 

  • Collaborates with other specialty teachers for special events.

  • Establishes and demonstrates positive classroom management routines that align with Responsive Classroom and creates a consistent classroom schedule with Director of Academics.

  • Fosters a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, collaboration, and a love of learning. 

  • Performs various non-instructional duties, such as attendance, lunch count and duty, recess, car duty, etc. 

  • Models the school’s mission of creating an educational environment that nurtures love of learning, joy of service and lively faith. 

  • Models and help students develop St. Peter’s core values (resilience, engagement, growth mindset, ambassador, inclusiveness)

  • Attends and participates in professional development growth activities on a regular basis, and as suggested by Director of Academics

  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum)

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a lead teacher

  • Models core values; Ambassador, Resilient, Engaged, Growth-mindset, Inclusive 

  • Professional and ethical 

  • Strong classroom management skills 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • Positive attitude and communication with parents, students, and faculty 

  • Collaborative problem solver and solution maker 

  • Proficient in technology including Glow Forge and 3D Printers
