Position Summary:

The Director of Academics and Learning Services is an educational leader in the school community, providing oversight and direction for all academic programming in grades 2-6, collaborating with the Assistant Head of School for preschool through first grade academic direction, and learning support services in grades K-6. This role ensures that curriculum, instruction, and student support systems are aligned with the school’s mission to provide Christ-centered, high-quality education for every child from preschool through sixth grade. The director partners closely with teachers, Assistant Head of School, and Head of School to help ensure academic excellence in a nurturing, developmentally appropriate environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Academic Leadership

  • Works with faculty and school’s academic leadership to implement, develope, evaluate, and continuously improvement the PK–6 curriculum, ensuring alignment with Christian values, high educational standards, and best practices.
  • Supervise and support faculty in instructional planning, differentiation, and assessment strategies.
  • Provide professional development to promote instructional excellence and integration of faith in learning.
  • Collaborate with the academic leadership team to set academic goals and track school-wide progress.
  • Support the spiritual formation of students by helping teachers integrate Biblical truths into the academic content and classroom culture. 
  • Collaborate with teachers in composing effective technology-infused, content-based lessons, and supports the teachers as they implement the lessons in their classrooms.
  • Develop best practices for instructional technology in grades K-6.
  • Oversee and manage the curriculum mapping system (Atlas).
  • Works with the AHOS to coordinate and facilitate any standardized and benchmark testing. This includes maintaining, interpreting, and communicating the data collected.

Learning Services & Student Support

  • Oversee academic support programs, including intervention, enrichment, and services for diverse learners.
  • Coordinate the identification and support of students with learning differences, working with families, teachers, and outside professionals to create and implement Individual Education Plan (ILP).
  • Collaborate with faculty in supporting struggling learners and differentiating instruction.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable educational and accommodation policies while maintaining the school’s Christ-centered mission.
  • Support the spiritual formation of students by helping teachers integrate Biblical truths into the academic content and classroom culture
  • Model Christian character and leadership in all aspects of school life.

Faculty Development & Supervision

  • Works with the HOS and Assistant HOS to develop salient in-service training and professional development opportunities for teaching faculty that are aligned with the school’s strategic plan and the mission of the school.
  • Instigates new programs, policies, and practices that improve the teaching and learning process across the curriculum.
  • Works with the HOS and AHOS to organize New Teacher in-service and Teacher In-service programs.
  • Disseminates research on educational practices that are research-based, innovative, and applicable to the teaching faculty.
  • Works with HOS/AHOS to devise and update the school’s plan for teacher evaluation and supervision.
  • Observes teachers in their classrooms upon the request of the teacher or the HOS/AHOS and offers insights for the enhancement of the teaching and learning.
  • Provides, upon request, to individual members of the teaching faculty encouragement, guidance, supporting information and resource materials, as well as needed consultation and on-site assistance in accomplishing their professional goals.
  • Engage in the hiring process for academic personnel.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Serve as a liaison between administration, faculty, parents, and outside professionals regarding academic and learning concerns.
  • Regularly communicate with families about academic programming, curriculum initiatives, student progress or student concerns.
  • Serve as a member of TCS’s Care Team to help with the development of a holistic learning and care plan for individual students as needed.
  • Participate in admissions decisions, particularly for students requiring learning support.

Qualifications:

  • Must be committed to performing duties in accordance with the stated mission and purpose of the school, biblical truths, TCS Faculty Handbook, and the Westminster Confession of Faith. All employees must be Christians and active members in a Christian church.
  • Is compelled by a Christian worldview as it relates to all personal and school-related matters.
  • Master’s degree in education, Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Leadership, Special Education or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Previous school leadership experience. 
  • Experience in curriculum development, oversight, and evaluation, and differentiated instruction, preferably in a Christian or private school setting.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting students with diverse learning needs.
  • Possesses general knowledge of the developmental characteristics as well as the academic, social, and emotional needs of students in preschool through grade 6.
  • Has knowledge of the job requirements and the social and emotional needs of teaching faculty.
  • Understands and ascribes to the principles of teamwork and organizational structures.
