DEPARTMENT: St. George’s Independent School Athletics

 

REPORTS TO:  Athletic Director 

 

DIRECT REPORTS:  Middle School Coaches

 

POSITION OBJECTIVE:  Major responsibility is to oversee all aspects of middle school athletics and assist the Athletic Director in operations within the Athletic Department. 

 

QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS:   Excellent public relations, communications and interpersonal skills are critical, as is the ability to interpret and administer school and institution policy.  Candidates must be able to maintain emotional control under stress, and possess a positive attitude when working with parents, coaches and athletes. 

 

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required. Three to five years of experience in athletic administration or coaching is preferred as is experience as an athlete.  Previous experience in the development and management of personnel is helpful.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for scheduling management in SG facilities of all Middle School sports (practices/games)
  • Responsible for scheduling and confirmation of all Middle School events
  • Responsible for all tryouts and roster management for the Middle School sports teams
  • Responsible for keeping all Middle School events loaded and up to date in scheduling software
  • Responsible for recruiting and hiring of all Middle School coaches
  • Responsible for all communications regarding MS Athletics (participation information, schedule information, accolades, sign-ups, upcoming events, Middle School recognition nights, weekly athletic newsletter, etc…)
  • Assists Athletic Director with details related to game/event management; confirmations, staffing and event set-up for all games/events
  • Ensure fields and courts are prepared to assure readiness for all contests as necessary
  • Assist in the maintenance of all athletic facilities as necessary and appropriate.
  • Interface with the Lower School Athletic Director and HIgh School Head Coaches to ensure vertical alignment across all areas
  • Assist with student leadership development and coaches development programs for Middle School 
  • Help organize and implement coaches meetings for Middle School coaches
  • Assist in the purchasing of athletic equipment and supplies as requested by the Athletic Director
  • Assist with Admissions Days and family tours
  • Remain current in the field by being active in professional organizations
  • Perform in a positive, professional manner all duties of employment in accordance with the rules of SGIS, including the Faculty Handbook and Policy and Procedure Manual
  • Assist Athletic Director with other duties as requested

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Must be able to meet physical requirements of the position which may include, but are not limited to, some exposure to hot, cold, wet and windy conditions, and the need to carry up to 50 pounds of weight for a short distance. Must be able to work extended hours and may have weekend responsibilities as needed. Travel between locations to Germantown and Collierville may be required.

 

EXEMPT STATUS:  Exempt, salary

 

WORK SCHEDULE: 12 month position. Schedule includes frequent interruptions, prolonged and irregular hours, to be determined by the Athletic Director.
