6^th Grade Science Teacher and Advisor

Oak Hill School seeks a creative and collaborative teacher for sixth-grade science and the 6^th grade advising team.

Responsibilities:

• Teaching science
• Serve as advisor to a small cluster of sixth-grade students
• Supervise and provide learning support for advisees
• Help students during study hall, collaborate on grade-level and subject-matter teams
• Participate in class outings and overnights
• Design and teach innovative lessons that differentiate for a variety of learning styles

Skills & Characteristics

• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• A strong understanding of child development (academically, socially, and emotionally) and a passion for working with the elementary-aged child.
• Bachelor’s Degree (required) in science or closely related field
• Experience in curriculum development and revision (required)
• A background in teaching writing (preferred)
• Experience creating and using assessments to inform instruction
• Prior teaching experience with elementary or middle school students (required)
• A commitment to support and be a part of building a diverse community that reflects God’s love as expressed in the Christian tradition.
• Prompt and regular attendance is an essential function of this job.
• Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, love, inclusion, and belonging principles both in teaching and in working with colleagues.

Qualifications include at least a bachelor’s degree in science or a closely related field, as well as elementary or middle-school teaching experience.
