The Harpeth Hall School seeks a full time upper school history and social sciences teacher. The candidate should be a dynamic and collaborative teacher of history who is qualified to teach a wide range of upper school social science courses. The current list of upper school history offerings are: World Cultures (9th), AP and on level History of the Modern World (10th), AP and on level US History (11th), AP European History (12th), AP US Government and Politics (11th and 12th), AP Art History (11th and 12th), Economics (11th and 12th), Democracy and Leadership (10th, 11th, and 12th), and Political Philosophy (10th, 11th, and 12th).

The ideal applicant is an experienced teacher who has an enthusiasm for working with high school students in an all-girls environment, a commitment to innovative pedagogy, and excellent writing and communication skills.  A Master’s degree and teaching experience at either the high school or university level are preferred. The upper school History and Social Sciences Department works closely as a team to maintain and ensure a strong social science curriculum. This position begins August 1, 2025. 

JOB DUTIES

  • Plan, prepare, and create activities for multiple levels of Social Sciences courses that correspond with the school's curriculum.
  • Monitor the progress of students, offering extra practice and instruction when needed.
  • Create, administer, and grade assessments of student learning.
  • Offer individual assistance outside of class to students who need extra help.
  • Communicate with students, advisors, and parents through comments, emails, phone calls, conferences, and Schoology (our learning management system).
  • Attend and participate fully in meetings with department members in the upper school, as well as additional meetings with other departments and divisions.
  • Supervise advisees, monitor their academic progress, and advise them on ways to improve their performance as needed. Meet with advisees once per week. Serve as the first point of contact for parents of advisees, including managing family conferences once per year.
  • Post assignments on Schoology two weeks in advance, proctor study hall, document curriculum in Atlas, and perform other 5th component and chaperoning duties as assigned.
