POSITION PURPOSE: The Head of Middle School (MS) serves as the face of the school and the leader of all facets of the Middle school, while ensuring that all MS programs have full integration of the Academy’s mission, vision, values, and goals.

POSITION OUTCOMES AND EXPECTATIONS:
Faculty and Staff Leadership:

- Foster a climate of spiritual growth and mentoring between faculty and students that is aligned with academy mission and stated beliefs
- Foster the unique middle school experience and culture among all MS faculty and staff
- Serve as the preeminent instructional leader in the building. Serve with academic input at all levels in the Middle School
- To oversee and direct the activities of each department, the sponsors of student organizations and activities, as well as faculty committees
- Ensure each department of the middle school is setting and achieving annual goals appropriately aligned with the broader Academy goals
- Ensure the Academy philosophy of education is evident in all areas of the school
- Observe, supervise, and evaluate the faculty using the Academy’s evaluation protocol to provide ongoing and consistent feedback and professional growth
- Champion and lead Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) as part of the Middle School DNA
- In collaboration with Academy leadership, provide internal and external professional development based on needs-based assessments of staff and the Academy Continuous Improvement Plan
- Make recommendations to the Head of School regarding the hiring, firing, retention, and the assignment of faculty
Building Administration:

- Oversee and manage the day-to-day operation of the MS. This includes schedules, classes, and events. All management should be aligned with the operation of the PS – 12 Academy
- Oversee the coordination of the co-curricular and extra-curricular activity programs, school assemblies, and assist in maintaining a comprehensive calendar of school events
- Provide for the academic guidance of students; ensure complete academic records on all students are maintained; oversee the standards, curriculum, assessments, and methods used by teachers in measuring student achievement
- Manage monetary items, staff projections, and staff allocations in compliance with the budget
- Utilize school data to make decisions regarding student academic performance, college admission, as well as student behavior and teacher development
- Oversee the annual master schedule for instructional programs, ensuring sequential learning experiences for students consistent with the school’s philosophy, mission, values, instructional goals, and priorities
- Assist in the admission process for the testing, interviewing, and evaluating applicants for enrollment
- Ensure compliance with all laws (state and federal), board policies, the educational standards established by the Tennessee Board of Regents and Tennessee Higher Education Commission, agencies that examine and accredit the school and any relevant civil regulations
- School Culture and Student Life:
- Create an atmosphere where the traits of integrity, empathy, humility, service, respect, work ethic, unity, and courage can grow and develop in the Middle school community
- Be a visible presence in all areas of the school; work toward a resolution of all problems - both routine and unique - as they arise; keep the Associate Head of School, Education and the Head of School informed of the general programs, activities, and problems of the school
- Be aware of the educational, physical, social, psychological, and spiritual needs of the members of our school community, and develop plans for assessing (collecting data) and meeting these needs
- Supervise in a fair and consistent manner with effective systems (discipline, attendance, etc…) with high standards, consistent with the philosophy, values, and mission of the school
- A desire to know and engage with the student body and keep the student experience one that’s positive, fun while engaging the student where they are
Communication:

- Communicate openly and effectively with parents, faculty, and students, seeking their support and investment, to create a cooperative partnership for an optimal school environment.
- Work with parents to resolve issues quickly and confidentially
- Use effective presentation skills when addressing students, staff, parents, as well as the community
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Professional Qualifications:
- A record of success as a school principal or assistant principal with overall responsibility for academics, co-curricular activities, and staff development
- Five or more years of academic leadership required.
- Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree are required; a Doctorate is not required, but will be valued.
- Middle School classroom experience strongly preferred
Personal Qualifications:
- The most significant personal qualification is the acceptance of Jesus Christ as personal Savior, and a life that reflects spiritual maturity and intimacy with God. A prospective candidate will be an individual whose life is lived out as a humble Christ-like example in his or her home and community
- A confident servant-leader whose style exemplifies Biblical principles of leadership and whose life exhibits appropriate Biblical balance
- CPA is seeking someone who can lead by example and inspire others to excellence by personal example
- A track record of effectively working with and leading teams. Others will describe the viable candidate as a person who can mentor other leaders, building teams, and creating a supportive work environment, and building consensus
- Evidence of the ability to think strategically and to accurately analyze complex situations
- A problem-solver, who can engage appropriate parties in the development and implementation of solutions
- Possess a high level of emotional intelligence
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality
Requirements:
- Committed to performing his/her duties in accordance with the stated mission and purpose of the school, Christ Presbyterian Academy Policy and Procedure Manual, CPA 101, and the Westminster Confession of Faith.
