First Grade Teacher

Oak Hill School seeks a creative and collaborative candidate for a self-contained first grade classroom. This faculty member will join a nurturing, Christian community committed to the School’s mission and vision for building a diverse and inclusive environment where all children learn, grow, and thrive. The candidate will demonstrate a love of working with children, an engaging teaching style, and the ability to interact well with parents and colleagues. As we prepare students to be lifelong learners, the same growth mindset is desired in our teachers. A strong knowledge base of literacy and math instruction is necessary. The ability to collaborate with a team of teachers to develop lesson plans and instructional materials is essential. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Treat each child as sacred, deserving our utmost respect, kindness, compassion, and patience.
  • Ensure all students feel a part of the community and see themselves reflected in the curriculum.
  • Accept students wherever they are in their spiritual walk and support them in their spiritual growth through flag raising, morning devotions, and daily prayer.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
  • Create lesson plans which drive instruction through formative assessment and differentiation.
  • Teach an intentional social and emotional learning curriculum.
  • Work collaboratively with a grade level team in academic planning.
  • Maintain a safe, organized classroom, which supports students’ learning.
  • Use available technology/instructional media to enhance the students’ learning experiences.
  • Monitor and maintain a positive classroom environment based on Responsive Classroom practices that supports the school wide behavior expectations and incorporates mutual respect and trust.
  • Communicate openly with parents to provide information about academic and behavior progress. 
  • Establish and maintain appropriate relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members by communicating in a courteous and confidential manner.
  • Attend and participate in school committees and faculty meetings.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional growth and work to formulate and complete professional development plans. 

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Preferred qualifications: 
    • Master’s degree preferred
    • At least two years teaching in a lower school environment.
    • Training in Responsive Classroom.
    • Training in specific and explicit phonics instruction
    • Training in best practices in math instruction. Singapore Math training is a plus. 
    • Prompt and regular attendance is an essential function of this job.
