Pre-K-6th Grade Outdoor Science Education Coordinator and Teacher

Oak Hill School seeks a creative and collaborative Outdoor Science Education Coordinator. The job is currently available now through May and will continue as a ten-month position beginning in August. 

The Outdoor Science Education Coordinator will have primary responsibility for the outdoor education program for Pre-K- 6th grade students. This position involves a mix of responsibilities including

  • Weaving outdoor education into the core curriculum
  • Integrating science curriculum into the outdoor education program for all grade levels
  • Planning and collaborating with classroom teachers on units that are tied to the science curriculum
  • Teaching or co-teaching lessons to PreK-6th grade students
  • Continuing SEL outdoor initiatives
  • Directing program initiatives
  • Coordinating outdoor (mix of day and overnight) experiences for students 

In pursuit of these responsibilities, the Coordinator will also:

  • Work with administration and faculty  
  • Communicate effectively with students’ families and faculty regarding program details
  • Manage the outdoor science education budget to promote a vibrant program
  • Assess progress of the program and its effectiveness
  • Support the commitment to ongoing diversity initiatives

The successful candidate will possess the following

  • A bachelor’s degree in science or a closely related field as well as teaching experience 
  • Experience with curriculum development and planning
  • A love of working with children 
  • A clear understanding or willingness to learn best practices in the area of outdoor education
  • An understanding of, and/or experience with outdoor science education program design and implementation
  • A creative mindset and strong organization skills
  • An ability to multitask and be flexible with priorities
  • Experience in student advising and mentoring
  • An educational philosophy which places students at the center of the learning process, fostering student curiosity, love of learning, and character development
  • A vision for what Oak Hill School’s outdoor education program can be in the years ahead
  • Willingness to integrate into the life of the school community
